Jacksonville, Fla. – The Jacksonville volleyball team fell Friday evening in straight sets to Jacksonville State to begin day one of the ASUN Crossover Weekend.
Set One
After falling behind to begin the match, JU was unable to gain traction and swing the momentum in their favor. The Dolphins were able to use a 5-2 run to trim the deficit to two, 12-10, in the middle of the frame. However, Jacksonville State was able to stall the Dolphins' momentum, using a 13-5 spurt to seal the opening set, 25-15.
Set Two
Jacksonville State carried their success from the opening set to begin the second frame, as the Gamecocks raced out to a 13-5 lead over the Dolphins. The Gamecocks continued their stellar play to finish the frame, taking the second set over JU, 25-15.
Set Three
Back-and-forth play was the theme to begin the third and final set, as Jacksonville State held a 13-11 edge over JU midway through the frame. The Gamecocks were able to close the match courtesy of a 12-5 spurt to take the third set, 25-16, and complete the straight set sweep over the Dolphins.
Jacksonville was led on the attack by
Isa Dostal and
Kyndaal Stansberry with eight and seven kills, respectively.
Niccola Bozzini posted 12 assists and
Camryn Honn recorded 11 assists of her own.
JU returns to the court Saturday afternoon, as the Dolphins welcome North Alabama to Swisher Gymnasium for day two of the ASUN Crossover Weekend.
