Jacksonville, Fla. – The Jacksonville University volleyball team was defeated in four sets by Central Arkansas, to conclude the ASUN Crossover Weekend.
Set One
Back-and-forth play was the theme to begin the match with Central Arkansas leading by two, 16-14. The two teams continued to trade points, but an attack error by the Dolphins forced a JU timeout, trailing 22-19. Following the break, the Sugar Bears strung together three-straight points to claim the contest's opening set, 25-19.
Set Two
After falling behind by five, 10-5, the Dolphins score four consecutive points to trim the deficit to one, 10-9, forcing a Central Arkansas timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Sugar Bears swung the momentum to their side of the net with a 10-3 scoring run, leading 20-12. Central Arkansas was able to win the second frame, 25-16, to enter the third set leading 2-0 in the match.
Set Three
The Dolphins fell behind from the start, as their deficit was as many as five, 18-13. However, JU was able to swing the momentum in their favor with a 5-1 run to trim the lead to one, 19-18, forcing a Central Arkansas timeout. Following the break, JU was able to continue their stellar play scoring seven of the final 10 points in the set, to take the third frame, 25-22.
Set Four
The two teams traded points to begin the match's final set, as the score was tied at 10-all. However, the Sugar Bears scored four of the next five points forcing a Dolphins' timeout. Coming out of the break with the score 14-11 in favor of Central Arkansas, the two teams traded points back-and-forth, with the Dolphins calling a timeout trailing 20-17. Central Arkansas was able to win the match after scoring the final three points in the match, to win the fourth set 25-20 and defeat the Dolphins in four sets.
Jacksonville was led on the attack by
Kyndaal Stansberry's 14 kills.
Camryn Honn recorded a team best 24 assists, as
Gyrani Rogers posted a match-high 18 digs.
The Dolphins return to the court Friday evening, as JU travels to face Stetson in ASUN play.
