10/4/2021 5:58:00 PM

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Jacksonville University women's golf concluded the first day of the Jupiter Women's Invitational in sixth place, with freshman Casey Powell leading the way individually in a tie for 10th, sitting 3-over after 36-holes of play.

The Dolphins moved up a spot overall, by shooting 13 strokes better as a team in the afternoon at PGA National Course.

Powell was a big part of the improved effort in the afternoon, as she shaved four strokes off of her first-round score on her second 18 of the day. While sinking a pair of birdies in the first round, she made six bogeys in the morning, before turning around in the afternoon and playing golf reminiscent of her medalist-winning performance a week ago. Her second round featured two red numbers as well, but also 15 pars, including a stretch of 12 holes of pars-or-better golf to close her round.

Frantiska Lunackova was the team's best performer in the first round, shooting 2-over. She sank a pair of birdies on her front nine, and made seven-straight pars at one point. She added three more red numbers in the afternoon, and shot 2-over for the round, bringing her score to 4-over for the event, where she finds herself in a tie for 13th on the leaderboard.

Macarena Aguilera also turned things around in the afternoon, shooting seven strokes better in the second round. She birdied his first hole of round two and rattled off seven straight pars after that, before hitting her second birdie of the round. She made par on seven of her last nine holes of the day and stormed up the leaderboard. Her 19 positions gained in the second round made her the biggest mover of the day, and she is currently T25.

Laura Pasalodos improved by a stroke in the second round and finished the day with 23 pars, second-most on the team. Jenna Fonda was a team-best 1-under on Par-5s and had 20 total pars and a birdie on day one.

Playing as an individual, Mawgan Vater turned in two solid rounds and is T25. She shot even on Par-5s, tied for second-best on the team and had four birdies, which was also the second most.

JU was best on Par-5s for the day, shooting 4-over as a team, third-best in the field. The Dolphins sank 110 pars and 16 birdies through the two rounds.

Lunackova and Powell were both 1-over on Par-3s to lead the team, while Powell was even on Par-4s and made a team-high 25 pars. Aguilera and Lunackova had five birdies each.

The team concludes the event tomorrow, with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
