GREENVILLE, NC — The Jacksonville University women's golf team finished in seventh out of 16 teams at the Ironwood Invitational hosted by ECU.
The veterans of the lineup led the way for Jacksonville as
Casey Powell and
Susana Olivares both finished in 12th place.
Powell started the tournament with a three-over scorecards, finishing the second round at seven-over-par. A third round one-over was her best round of the tournament and moved her up 12 spots on the final day to secure a top-15 finish.
Olivares finished with the same score of eight-over, but started out strong with a one-over scorecard. A second round of three-over followed by a four-over final round dropped Olivares back two spots but kept her in the top-15 alongside Powell for another successful event.
Next for JU was
Erin Marcelino playing as an individual. Marcelino started out strong, finding herself in sixth place in the second round. An even-par scorecard in the first and shooting two-over in the second put her towards the top, but a tough third round dropped her out of contention, finishing in 42nd and third overall for the team.
Sophia Perkins and
Ivete Rodrigues rounded out the Jacksonville players in the event, with Perkins moving up nine spots in the final round to place 66th. Rodrigues finished in 76th, four strokes behind Perkins to end JU's week in North Carolina.
