PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Two Dolphins shot par or better as Jacksonville University women's golf finished sixth in the Jupiter Women's Invitational at PGA National.
Casey Powell shot the lowest round of the year for any JU player, using a final round 69 to finish seventh overall, her third consecutive top-10 performance, while her teammate
Macarena Aguilera improved each round, shooting a 71 on Tuesday to finish T19.
Powell logged her first ever sub-70, bouncing back from an early double-bogey. After starting the day with a birdie and four pars, she went double-bogey and bogey in consecutive holes. From there, the freshman showed the steady nerves that have defined her career in its formative weeks, making two pars to close out her front nine, before shooting 4-under on the back nine, with two birdies and an eagle on the Par-5 13th.
Frantiska Lunackova came home T15 after shooting 3-over her final round, and 18-hole trip that featured three birdies. She was closely followed by Aguilera, who bounced back from a tough first round to secure a top-20 finish. She had a team-high five birdies, including three as part of a 2-under par front nine.
Jenna Fonda and
Laura Pasalodos tied overall, with Fonda shooting her best round of the week with 11 pars and a birdie, while Pasalodos managed nine pars and a birdie herself.
Mawgan Vater, the individual, concluded a consistent week of golf with a 1-under par score on Par-5s, tied for best on the team with Lunackova.
As a group, JU made 159 pars, 29 birdies and the one eagle by Powell, who was the best in the field on Par-4s again, shooting 3-under. She and Aguilera were the best scorer's on Par-3s, shooting 2-over for the week.
Powell's 37 pars were the third most made in the field for the week and Aguilera had 10 birdies total, one of only eight golfers to hit double-digit red numbers.
The team continues its barnstorming ways, heading north next week to compete in the Edisto Island Classic hosted by College of Charleston on Monday and Tuesday.
