Dolphins Stifle Charleston Southern for Road Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Jacksonville University basketball used a 15-0 run early in the second half to separate on the road on the way to a 67-56 win over Charleston Southern on Thursday night.

The Dolphins (4-2) never trailed en route to its first road win of the season, holding a fourth consecutive opponent under 60 points.

JU started the night with a Jordan Davis three-pointer and led by eight, 14-6, when Bryce Workman found Mike Marsh for a layup. Charleston Southern fought back to cut it to two, 14-12, before both teams went on a 3:50 scoring drought.

It stayed tight the remainder of the half, with the Dolphins taking a four-point lead into the half, 27-23.

The Buccaneers scored four quick points to start the second half and tie the game for just the second time. Davis then hit a layup to put JU back in front and spearhead the run that defined the rest of the game. Workman got a steal and George Pridgett hit a layup and got fouled for an old-fashioned three-point play. Both Jordan and Tyreese Davis turned steals into transition layups, and Tommy Bruner added one as well as the Dolphins got eight points off of turnovers during the run.

A Marsh layup from Workman and a steal that led to a Jordan Davis dunk before a Bruner three pushed the lead to its largest of the night, 49-31.

Charleston Southern slowly chipped away, eventually cutting the deficit to nine, 58-49, with 2:49 to play. Workman found Marsh for another layup to push it to double-digits again and Tyreese Davis made 6-8 free throws down the stretch to keep the Bucs at bay.
