Women’s Soccer Battles Kennesaw State in Home Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a cool and wet evening at Southern Oak Stadium Friday as the Jacksonville University women's soccer team opened their 2021 home campaign against Kennesaw State University in non-conference action. In a low-scoring affair, the Dolphins (0-3) were unable to navigate the Owls' (1-0) defense, falling by a final of 1-0.

The first half saw little action, with the teams combining for just five shots between them. Jacksonville had an opportunity to get on the board in the 32nd minute on a shot by Anna Remensyder, but the Kennesaw State keeper was able to get a glove on it to make the save.

In the second half, the Owls came out firing, testing the Dolphins' defense right away. Jacksonville was able to weather the storm until the 75th minute, when KSU's Kameron Downs found the net for the only goal of the contest.

Paige Macritchie made three saves in goal during the second half for JU in her first extended action of the season.

Jacksonville will be back in action Sunday at 10 AM from Southern Oak Stadium for a rematch with Florida International University. The two teams met in Miami last weekend, with the Panthers coming away with a 2-0 decision.
