Women's Soccer Takes FIU to OT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University women's soccer took FIU to overtime, before falling 1-0 on Sunday at Southern Oak Stadium.

The Panthers scored just under two minutes into extra time, ending a hard-fought battle with JU (0-4) in soggy morning conditions.

Sophomore keeper Courtney Green turned in a spectacular performance, consistently turning away the FIU attack to keep the game scoreless throughout regulation. She finished the game with six saves in her fourth start in goal.

The Dolphins finished the day with eight shots, two on goal. Billie Bielicke came off the bench and fired a low shot in the 75th minute that was turned away by FIU, her second such attempt of the day. JU kept the pressure on, getting another shot in 79th minute from Logan Gonzales, forcing the Panthers keeper to make another late save to keep it scoreless.

Tinotenda Chiweshe, Gabby Holtrop and Olivia Abdallah also added shots as the offense continues to find its footing early on this season.

The Dolphin defense played cleaner than FIU as well today, committing only six fouls to the Panthers 10, and earning five corner kicks throughout the match.

Jacksonville has another opportunity in non-conference play next Friday at The Citadel, before settling into ASUN Conference play for the remainder of the season.
