JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women's soccer team (1-7-1, 1-2-1 ASUN) battled North Florida (7-0, 4-0) to the bitter end on Saturday evening, jumping out to an early lead but ultimately taking a loss, 2-1, in double overtime.
The Dolphins were outshot, 22-2, but the game never appeared that one-sided. The Dolphin defense was up to the task of competing with the ASUN's best.
Courtney Green made eight saves in goal and the lone score for JU came from someone on that back line in the form of a free kick beauty from
Emma Wood in the 11th minute.
North Florida tied the score in the 14th minute and the battle rolled on from there. Both sides created chances and Jacksonville nearly stole this one during the first overtime forcing the Osprey keeper to make her lone save of the night. UNF scored the winner on a long strike from the top of the box in the 104th minute.
Just two matches in the regular season remain for Jacksonville. First, the Dolphins will travel to FGCU on Mar. 28 for a 1 p.m. start from Fort Myers, Fla. Next, JU will close out the regular season at UNF on Apr. 3 at 1 p.m.
