JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men's soccer team (3-4-1, 3-2 ASUN) picked up a hugely important victory on Saturday night opposite FGCU (2-2-3, 2-1-2) in convincing fashion, 3-0.
Reed Davis scored the first of his two goals in the 13th minute. Jacksonville worked into the box and drew a foul, earning a penalty kick. Davis was selected to take the shot and buried it with ease to put his team ahead early.
Just about eight minutes later,
Jose Manzo made a run down the right side of the field and served a cross to the center of the box. Davis was there to connect in mid-air and drive home his second tally of the night and fourth of the season. While FGCU was generating chances,
Matt Levy was there to stop everything in sight, making four saves in the first half.
The Dolphins put a bow on this one in the 52nd minute when Manzo took the ball from an FGCU player and drove it to mid-field before serving to
Olivier Correa on the left side. Correa settled off his chest and carried to his right foot where he drove a hard shot against the grain, past the diving FGCU keeper to make it 3-0, Jacksonville.
Levy made couple of saves down the stretch to lock this one up and push the Dolphins to the top of the table in the south division of the ASUN. With just one weekend to play, the Dolphins control their own destiny in pursuit of the top seed in the south portion of the ASUN bracket.
Jacksonville will close out the regular season on Saturday, Apr. 3 at 6 p.m. opposite North Florida.
