FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men's soccer team (1-3-1, 1-1 ASUN) battled FGCU (1-1-2, 1-0-1 ASUN) on the road on Saturday night and despite producing a scoreless first half, fell 3-1.
Cao Chaves scored the lone goal for the Dolphins while
Matt Levy made two saves in goal. The two sides combined for just five total shots in the first half. Neither side managed many chances that provided a threat to put a score on the board.
In the second half, FGCU struck quickly, notching the first score of the match in just the 46th minute. O'Vonte Mullings tallied each of the first two FGCU goals. The second came in the 48th minute to put the Dolphins in a 2-0 hole.
Chaves cut the deficit in half with his tally in the 74th minute but FGCU answered with less than five minutes to play to put this one away.
Reed Davis had a shot late and JU generated a corner kick in the final minute but to no avail. FGCU came away with the 3-1 victory.
Next up for the Dolphins will be a date at home with Stetson on Mar. 13. The Dolphins will not leave the city of Jacksonville for the remainder of the regular season with three matches at home and one at North Florida.
