JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women's soccer team closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon with their third River City Rumble match of the season against the University of North Florida. Despite being scoreless at the intermission, the Dolphins (1-9-1, 1-4-1) were unable to keep pace with the Ospreys (9-1-0, 6-0-0), falling by a final score of 4-0.
UNF came out pushing the tempo in the first 45 minutes of action, getting off 11 shot attempts, two of which were saved by Dolphin netminder
Courtney Green.
The Ospreys notched the first goal of the game in the 56th minute, a shot from about ten yards beyond the top of the penalty area, over the reach of Paige Macritchie who took over in goal to start the second half. UNF's second goal came just minutes later when a penalty kick.
North Florida scored two more times in the final 10 minutes of play. In the 81st minute, the Ospreys connected on a shot from the top of the box over the outstretched arms of Green. The final goal of the game came in the 88th minute, again from long range and this time from the far corner of the box past a diving
Dani Pollard to make it a 4-0 game.
Gabby Holtrop had the Dolphins' lone shot of the day, an attempt in the 83rd minute that was saved by the keeper. Green had two of JU's three saves in goal during the match.
Up next for the Dolphins, they make the trip back to Fort Myers for the opening round of the 2021 ASUN Conference Women's Soccer Championships on April 10.
