Dolphins Are Defeated By Eagles to Take Its First Loss of The Season

STATESBORO, Ga. -Jacksonville University women's soccer team (2-1-0) suffered its first loss of the season on the road against Georgia Southern (1-1-1), Thursday afternoon. The Eagles were consistently aggressive on offense and prevented the Dolphins from scoring to pull away with the 3-0 victory.

The first half of the contest was controlled by Georgia Southern, as the Eagles rattled off five shots in the first 15 minutes of play. JU goalkeeper, Courtney Green, prevented the Eagles from scoring at the 14 minute mark as she recorded a save to keep the game tied at zero.

Suddenly, it became a back-and-forth affair as the teams began to step up in pursuit of landing the ball in the back of the net. However, the Eagles would come out on top after scoring a goal on a free kick by Marcela Montoya at the 39 minute mark. After making sure the Dolphins did not have success on offense, the Eagles held onto its 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Picking up where they left off, the Eagles managed to take four quick shots in the first five minutes of the second half. Georgia Southern continued to be aggressive, preventing JU from attempting to score for the next thirteen minutes. A goal at the 85 minute mark from Georgia Southern's Olivia Durham, followed by a goal by Vala Theodorsdottir, secured the win for the Eagles.

Despite earning a loss, two Dolphins stood out during the match. Anna Remensnyder won 100 percent of her tackles, and Green recorded her fifth save of the season while facing 19 total shots from the Eagles.

JU will remain on the road and travel to Clinton, South Carolina for a match against Presbyterian (1-1-0). The game is set for Sunday, August 29 at 1:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN+ Visit judolphins.com for the latest information on all things JU soccer.
