Dolphins Roll to Friday Night Win

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Jacksonville University volleyball captured the first set and then rolled a victory over UNCW on Friday night.
 
The Dolphins (3-7) separated to win the match, 3-1, and captured its third win against the Seahwaks this season.
 
SET ONE
 
Jacksonville led steadily early, using kills from Autumn DeSantis, Isa Dostal and Camryn Honn to keep the advantage. UNCW staged a 4-0 run to take a 12-11 lead and JU called a timeout.Down two, Kyndaal Stansberry picked up her first kill, and a Gyrani Rogers ace, a Honn and Dostal block and Dostal kill completed a 5-0 run to make it 20-18 in favor of the Dolphins.
 
After a late JU timeout, Jenna McNamara and Barbora Romancova both collected kills before Addyson Lewis finished it off, to give JU the set one victory, 25-22.
 
SET TWO
 
Another tight opening to a set, with JU building a 7-4 lead, before UNCW rallied, scoring seven of the next nine points to lead 11-9. After a Romancova kill cut it to one, the Seahawks went on another run, scoring the next five to force a timeout. DeSantis strung together a pair of kills to help the Dolphins rally, and Brianna Jackson chipped in a kill, but the Seahawks held JU at bay to win the set, 25-19.
 
SET THREE
 
The Dolphins started strong and set the tone for the set early, scoring seven of the first 10 points. UNCW cut it to two twice, but JU separated with a 4-0 run and never looked back. DeSantis had back-to-back kills to force a Seahawk timeout, and Honn had an ace, Rogers collected another ace and DeSantis and Dostal combined for a block to put the Dolphins in front 21-13. Honn then finished things off with an ace to win the set, 25-16.
 
SET FOUR
 
Stansberry had a kill to conclude an early 4-0 to put JU up 8-4 and force a UNCW timeout in the fourth set, but the Dolphins would not be denied. She added another kill to make it 10-6, and Romancova and DeSantis went back-to-back to make it 13-8. Dostal, Romancova and DeSantis (x2) ripped off four of five points and Jackson punched home a kill to ice it, 25-19.
 
DeSantis led the way with 14 kills, a season-high, while Honn had 38 assists, Kariana Ayala collected 19 digs and Honn, DeSantis and Rogers each had two aces.
 
Jacksonville plays again tomorrow, with a double-header vs. Campbell and UNCG.
