JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Jacksonville University women's soccer team (5-1-1) remains unbeaten at Southern Oak Stadium after defeating the Alabama A&M Bulldogs (0-4-1), 4-0. Three different Dolphins scored, while all eligible players saw action on the field at least once during the contest.Â
JU consistently dominated on offense through the entirety of the game. A shot attempt by Kaya Williams at the four minute mark, followed by three consecutive shot attempts from Lola Negrete, set the tone for the remainder of the period. For the first twenty minutes, the Dolphins attempted five shots and held the Bulldogs to only one that would ultimately be saved by starting goalkeeper, Paige MacRitchie.Â
Towards the end of the period, the Dolphins continued to keep the ball on the Bulldogs half of the field and attempted three more shots, but were unsuccessful. At the 38 minute mark, Julianne Hutchison snuck the ball past the goalkeeper to give JU the 1-0 lead. The goal marks Hutchinson's first of the season. Neither team managed to get near the goal for the last seven minutes of play, and the Dolphins went into halftime on top.Â
The second half echoed the first as JU attempted four shots in the first twenty minutes, and prevented the Bulldogs from achieving any. At the 64:11 minute mark, a foul committed by the Bulldogs in the box gave the Dolphins the chance to score. Taking advantage of the penalty kick, Hutchison launched the ball over the goalkeeper's head to score her second goal of the game and extend the Dolphins lead to 2-0.Â
However, JU's momentum did not stop there. Less than 10 minutes later, Beyonce Robinson scored off an assist by Selma Fohrer to change the score to 3-0. Two minutes later, at the 74 minute mark, Mya Stolarski found the back of the net off a pass from Adanna Edwards to make it 4-0. This goal would also serve as Stolarski's first of the season. As the clock began to run out, the Bulldogs were unable to fire at the JU goal and the Dolphins exited the field with its fifth regular season victory.Â
"Our girls battled today, Alabama brought it and made it hard for us to get on the board quickly," assistant coach Annie Price said. "It was great that we got to use all of our players regardless if they started or came off the bench, the depth helped us get the win today."Â
Every Dolphins on the sideline made an appearance during the game, meaning all 11 freshmen have officially made collegiate debuts.Â
"We came out with high energy and everyone played a part in the game," Hutchison said. "No matter if it was scoring a goal, getting an assist or recording a tackle, our team depth played a role in scoring four goals today."Â
Up next, the Dolphins will remain in Jacksonville to compete against Charleston Southern (0-1-1) at Southern Oak Stadium on Sept. 12. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. ET and the afternoon will serve as Military Appreciation Day. Visit judolphins.com for the latest information on all things JU soccer.Â
