JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – 2022 is off and thus begins a new schedule and chapter for the Dolphins. This year offers a fresh new group on the roster with strong key returners to give the Dolphins a positive outlook on the season ahead.
"We definitely like to challenge ourselves with non-conference play and I think this schedule does that," says head coach, Erica Ayers. JU opens this year on February 11th as they host the River City Leadoff. Over the span of three days the Dolphins face NC State, Western Carolina, Campbell, and cap off their opening weekend with a Sunday matchup against Florida A&M.
Ayers and her coaching staff prepared a schedule of 51 total games, 24 being conference games. The staff has high praise for the ASUN Conference from top to bottom, therefore scheduling games early on against teams such as Florida, Michigan State, Kentucky, LIU, USF, and many others that are critical to the test this JU squad faces this season to ensure success later in the year.
ASUN play begins on March 19th as JU travels to Louisville, Kentucky to take on Bellarmine. The ASUN schedule for JU spans from then until May 7th in Kennesaw, Georgia with a few non-conference stops with Florida A&M and FSU.
Following a 29-20 season in 2021, Coach Ayers and her staff turned over 50% of the roster, creating a new but exciting challenge. "I'm really looking forward to seeing what this group is made of. I anticipate a learning curve early and expect to be playing our best softball in April and May." At the perfect time, of course.
Their new journey begins in 24 days and for JU, it's an exciting lead-up.
