JU Rolls to Big Win Over Central Arkansas

1/29/2022 9:34:00 PM

Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As complete a team effort as Jacksonville University men's basketball has put forth thus far in ASUN Conference play delivered a 79-59 win over Central Arkansas on Saturday night.

The Dolphins (13-7, 5-3) got scoring from nine different players and played stifling defense to win for the 10th time this season at Swisher Gym.

The game started off with both teams hitting big shots, while Central Arkansas seemed to dictate the pace early. The Bears were hitting threes and pressing after makes, but Bryce Workman helped JU take them out of that plan by effectively leading breaks against the press multiple times in the first half, scoring or assisting on four baskets against it.

Central Arkansas led by as many as five in the first, but the Dolphins closed the half strong, taking the lead back and then Gyasi Powell hit a corner three to end the first, with JU leading 35-31.

The second half started with impeccable ball movement on offense and contesting threes on defense. After the Bears sank five threes in the first half, they were held to just 1-10 shooting behind the arc in the second, while the Dolphins beat the zone defense with a barrage from deep, led by Tyreese Davis, who made four of JU's five second-half threes, and led all scorers with 22 points.

JU outscored Central Arkansas 20-8 to start the second half and never looked back, winning by its largest margin over a conference foe this season.
