BOCA RATON, Fla. – Jacksonville University women's golf closed out day one of the Jupiter Women's Invitational in a tie for third overall.
Susana Olivares shot 70-70 on Monday and is T2, with two of her teammates joining her in the top ten of the leaderboard with one round to play at Jonathan's Landing Golf Club.
The redshirt-junior transfer was a model of consistency all day. She bounced back an early bogey in her first round with a birdie on the very next hole, and rattled off two straight at one point on her back nine to finish her first round at even par and second on the leaderboard. She followed that up with a three-birdie, 12-par second round as well, and has positioned herself just one shot off the lead with 18 holes to play.
Casey Powell shot 71-72 and is T5 after 36 holes. She made three birdies in her first round, closing it on a steady streak of four straight pars. On her second 18, she put a tough start to the round behind her to rally with two birdies and five pars on her last seven holes of the day to move three spots up the leaderboard, and is just four strokes off the lead.
Laura Pasalodos is the third Dolphin in the top 10 after two rounds, as she is tied for ninth. She shot a first round 70, making three birdies and par on all but one of her final 15 holes of the first round. Her second 18 featured two more birdies and 11 pars in total.
Ashley Huffman made two birdies and 10 pars in the first round and 11 more pars and a birdie in the second.
Ivete Rodrigues was unable to compete on Monday due to illness.
The Dolphins posted the best team score on Par-3s for the day, and was third-best on Par-4s and Par-5s. Olivares led JU in Par-3 scoring, shooting 1-under, and Par-5 scoring, with even par. Pasalodos was JU's best on Par-4s, shooting even. Powell had a team-leading six birdies and Olivares made 24 pars to pace the Dolphins.
The final round starts Tuesday morning, with tee-times beginning for JU at 7:50 a.m. through 8:26 a.m.
