Dolphins Up and Down in Day Two of River City Leadoff

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Dolphins continued their weekend with a double-header on Saturday against Western Carolina (3-1) and Campbell (3-1). At the end of day two of the River City Leadoff, the Dolphins would fall twice, moving their record to 0-4.

In the first matchup of the day, JU and WCU pushed their contest to nine innings. WCU got out to an early one run lead in the second inning when Lambert ran across home-plate after teammate, Reele, forced a throw down to second base. The score would remain the same until JU's Rodebaugh would cross the plate on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded in the fourth.

Rodebaugh would once again get involved in the scoring in the following inning as she drove in Tatianna Davis with a single in the fifth inning, giving JU a 2-1 lead. That score would only remain for two innings when WCU's Rice hit a long home run to left field to tie the ballgame at two in the top of the seventh. On to extra's the teams would go, as the teams would start with a runner on second base. That rule would pay off for WCU in the eighth as a simple single to right field would give them the lead. However, Kailey Harrigan would ensure that lead would not last, as she hit a home run of her own in the bottom of the eighth to tie the ballgame at three.

The final outcome would take place in the ninth inning, where WCU would single to left field and go up 3-4 before the Dolphins came to bat in the bottom of the inning. In that bottom of the ninth, WCU was able to hold JU scoreless and come out on top with a 3-4 victory. WCU would take both games in this opening weekend against JU.

In their second game against Campbell, JU would find it difficult to find the strike-zone defensively and find the ball on the offensive end as well. In an uneventful contest for the Dolphins, Campbell would secure a victory of 0-18, as their pitcher, Isabella Smith would throw a five-inning no-hitter against the Dolphins squad.

JU will have a chance to win their first game tomorrow in the third and final day of the River City Leadoff. They are scheduled for February 13th, at 12:30PM to take on Florida A&M.
