Dolphins Sweep High Point Opening Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Another late inning rally fueled Jacksonville University baseball to a 5-3 win on Sunday at John Sessions Stadium over High Point.

The Dolphins (3-0) completed the season-opening series sweep over the Panthers.

The bats got going early for the Dolphins. Leadoff hitter Chase Malloy wasted no time getting on-base with a single. Jonah Diaz's bat remained hot, as he drove in Malloy with an RBI double to left. Raymond Gil joined the early hit parade with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

A pitching battle ensued over the next four innings. Christian Graham got the start for the Dolphins and went 4.2 innings, allowing only one run with three strikeouts and one hit surrendered.

In the High Point half of the 7th inning, they continued what they did all series and battled to find their way in front for the first time. A two out rally by the Panthers, after two walked batsmen and a fielding error by the Dolphins tied the game at two. The next Panther hitter collected an RBI single to give High Point the lead, 3-2.

Jacksonville was down but not done. In the very next half inning, the Dolphins responded when they needed to most. Jackson Grabsky started off the rally with a single, followed by a Malloy walk. With two outs, Gil stepped to the plate and delivered with a two RBI double to give Jacksonville the lead, 4-3. Looking for an insurance run, Christian Coipel got his first hit of the game with a blooping fly ball just over the second baseman's head to drive Gil home making it 5-3.

That's all that was needed for the Dolphins to finish out the sweep of High Point. Tyler Vogel came in to pitch the final two innings and picked up his first save of the season
