JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A nip-and-tuck battle on Tuesday night at a raucous John Sessions Stadium ended in a 3-2 win for Jacksonville University baseball over #10/#13 Florida State. 

The Dolphins (4-0) erased a two-run deficit and struck out 14 Seminole batters over the course of the evening.

Jacksonville freshman pitcher Blake Barquin picked up his first win of his collegiate career in a game to remember for him. Coming in to relieve Luke Baker in the fifth inning, Barquin threw 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball as Tyler Vogel took over in the ninth inning to get the final two outs and earn his second save of the season. Michael Darrell-Hicks got the night started by striking out the first six batters he faced, including a nine-pitch second inning, and left after three innings of two hit, one-run ball with eight total strikeouts.

Florida State grabbed the early lead, 2-0 and were throwing a one-hitter through four innings of ball. The Dolphins offense was able to come alive in the bottom of the fifth inning, starting with Blake DeLamielleure getting hit by a pitch. Cam Ridley followed that up with an RBI double to cut the 'Noles lead to one. Ridley then advanced to third base on a Jake Berg groundout, coming around to score on a wild pitch to Jesus Pacheco to tie the game, 2-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, Jonah Diaz got it started by drawing a walk. Raymond Gil proceeded to pick up his second base hit of the night to advance Diaz to second with nobody out. After a strikeout, Coach Chris Hayes called for Tommy Joseph to pinch hit. It turned out to be the game deciding decision as Joseph drove home Diaz to give JU the lead 3-2.

In the top of the 9th inning, Florida State got a one out double to give the FSU faithful some life. With one out and runners at the corners, Florida State put on a suicide squeeze play but a missed bunt had the runner caught between third and home and a pickle ensued, 2-5-2-6 and the Dolphins shortstop, Chase Malloy, was able to tag the runner for the second out of the inning. Vogel got the batter to fly out to right field for the final out of the game.
