BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Dolphins (0-11) began day one of the FAU Strikeout Cancer tournament this Thursday afternoon, falling to Kentucky (10-1) and FAU (4-6) in a doubleheader.
Kentucky came into the 1PM contest ranked 15th and showed why right out of the jump. In the first inning, Kentucky shortstop, Erin Coffel, drove in the first three runs with a home run as Taylor Ebbs would follow behind with a solo homer of her own. Those back-to-back home runs would be the start of a seven-run inning and twelve-run game for the Wildcats.
Offensively for the Dolphins in game one, four runs came across the plate, two scored as earned, coming off the bat of Logan Keith and Victoria Rodebaugh. It would not be enough to make the comeback as they would fall 4-12 in just five innings.
JU's next contest followed shortly after, at 3:30 PM, as the Dolphins played a matchup with the host, FAU, in six innings. In the second inning, Joely Leguizamon tripled down the right-field line to drive in Madison Bratek and tie the game at one. FAU would score the next eight runs, however, and hold the Dolphins to that one run and a final score of 1-9.
JU continues their tournament play on day two as they take on LIU (1-8) at 11AM on Friday, February 25th.
