GULF SHORES, Ala. – Macarena Aguilera shot a final round 72 and finished T5 as Jacksonville University women's golf concluded the Bama Beach Bash on Monday with a fifth-place finish.
Frantiska Lunackova and
Jenna Fonda joined Aguilera in the top-25 and the team broke a tie for sixth entering the day over the course of the final 36 holes to collect its fourth top-five finish this season.
Aguilera shaved three strokes off of her first round score in the second, sinking a birdie on her first hole of the morning to set the tone. After 10 pars, including five in a row leading up to her third birdie of the day on the back nine, she gave back some, making three consecutive bogeys to end the round.
She started her second 18 with a pair of pars and another bogey before catching fire, making four birdies before making the turn and adding an additional birdie and five pars to close her day. She led the team and was tied for third in the field with 10 total birdies. It was her third top-five of the season and fourth top-10 finish.
Lunackova put a tough second round behind her to shoot 23 spots up the leaderboard in the final round. She made three birdies and six pars on her third-round front nine, and made two more birdies on the back to shoot a final round 72. She made a team-best 34 pars in the tournament.
Fonda's best round was her second, where she made four birdies, including three consecutive at one point. She finished the day with 21 pars and five birdies, finishing in a tie for 25th.
Casey Powell improved her scores each round, making four total birdies for the day and 18 pars.
Laura Pasalodos totaled 15 pars and a birdie and
Harley Hiltibrand had 17 pars.
JU was the third-best scoring team on Par-3s and fourth-best on Par-4s. The Dolphins totaled 148 pars and 28 birdies. Aguilera led the team on the Par-3s, shooting 1-over for the week. Both she and Lunackova were even par on Par-5s in the event.
Next week, JU travels up to Pawley's Island, S.C. for the Golfweek/AGT Spring Intercollegiate starting Monday.
