JACKSONVILLE, Fla - Jacksonville University baseball fell to the UCF Knights on Tuesday night 6-1 at John Sessions Stadium.
The Dolphins (16-14) were held to just five hits on the night.
Heston Mosley started for the Dolphins going 2.1 innings, surrendering three runs and recording one strikeout and five walks. In the top of the third, the Knights got their offense going as the bases were walked loaded with nobody out. Then a two RBI base hit underneath the glove of the third basemen,
Jonah Diaz, gave UCF a 2-0 lead. After a pop out to center field, Coach Hayes made a move to the bullpen bringing in
Tyler Naumann. A two-out base hit to left field plated another run for the Knights, making it 3-0. Naumann snuck out of the inning with limited damage striking out the next batter.
Leighton Alley followed Naumann and settled things down for a while, going 1.2 innings, striking out two batters and walking one.
Bryce Fisher took over to start the sixth inning and pitched 1.2 innings, recording three strikeouts.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Cam Ridley hit a one-out infield single that brought up the top of the order. Ridley swiped second on a 0-1 count to Eli Flowers. Flowers reached on a strikeout-wild pitch that advanced Ridley to third to put runners on the corners, still with only one out. A throwing error by the Knights catcher trying to nail Flowers stealing scored Ridley to cut the UCF lead to 3-1.
Chase Malloy delivered with a double to put runners at second and third, but a pop out to the short stop and a strikeout got UCF out of the inning on top.
In the top of the 9th inning, a lead off single had UCF in business. A sacrifice bunt put the runner at second and that was followed by a base hit to score the run making it 4-1 Knights. A catcher's interference call put runners at first and second with one out. A two RBI double down the left field line extended the lead to 6-1.Â
