VALDOSTA, Ga. – Jacksonville University women's golf opened the ASUN Women's Golf Championship with a first round 306 and are in eighth after the first day at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
Casey Powell led the Dolphins, shooting a 74 and is T15. The freshman had a steady day, shooting five straight pars to open her round, after a bogey, she rattled off eight more in a row. She closed with three more pars, shooting 16 total on Sunday, good for second-most in the field.
Frantiska Lunackova is two strokes back of Powell. She made two birdies and poured in 12 pars as well.
Macarena Aguilera had an up-and-down round, scoring the most birdies out of anyone on the team. She made three of them on the front nine, and finished the day with four total. She also had seven pars in her round.
Mawgan Vater is tied with Aguilera, making two birdies and eight pars. She was one of the best scorers on Par-5s on the day, shooting 1-under.
Jenna Fonda had 10 pars and a birdie in her first round.
JU's second round gets underway at 9:45 a.m. on Monday morning when Fonda tees off first. Powell is the last tee-time for the Dolphins, going off hole 10 at 10:21 a.m.
