VALDOSTA, Ga. – Jacksonville University women's golf shaved seven strokes off of its round one score on Monday and sits in seventh with one round to go in the ASUN Women's Golf Championship.
Frantiska Lunackova turned in a 1-under 71 and was the biggest climber on the leaderboard, moving up 19 spots to 10th.
She started her day with a birdie on her second hole, and after giving two strokes back, made a second birdie and two pars to close her first nine. After making the turn she sank her third and fourth consecutive pars, before a third birdie and another pars. She had two more red numbers in her last five holes, concluding the day with five birdies in total.
Casey Powell bounced back from a tough start in which she double-bogeyed her second hole to rattle off five straight pars and closed her first nine with her first birdie of the day. She rode an up-and-down second nine, with a pair of birdies and three pars and is T17 through 36 holes.
Macarena Aguilera was five strokes better in her second round, climbing 11 spots on the leaderboard and was one bad hole away from major moves on the leaderboard. She hit consecutive birdies on her second and third holes, and after a tough fifth hole, bounced back with a birdie and two pars in her final four of her first nine. She sank two straight birdies on her 10th and 11th holes, and finished with pars on five of her last seven of the day and is T23.
Mawgan Vater made 11 pars in her second round and
Jenna Fonda had seven pars and a birdie.
JU's 23 birdies are fourth-most in the field, with Aguilera's nine tied for second-most amongst all competitors. Powell has a team-best 25 pars through the first two days, while Lunackova is the team's best scorer on Par-4s and Par-5s, playing even golf on such holes so far.
The final round tees off at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, with Fonda going off first and Lunackova the last to tee off at hole one at 9:21 a.m.
