JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Jacksonville University volleyball battled its way to a 2-0 victory in Jacksonville Invitational Presented by Hampton Regency.
The Dolphins separated to win the match 3-2 and captured their first win this season, also winning against Georgia State in the second game match of the day.
SET ONE
Jacksonville led steadily early, using kills from Haley Hart, Jenna Mcnamara, and Lyric Love to keep the momentum. Chattanooga fought back taking the lead 23-20. A service error keeping the Dolphins in the game 24-23. Mcnamara slams one down allowing the Dolphins to take set 25-23.
SET TWO
The Dolphins in set two led early with a kill from Hart putting Jacksonville up 6-1. Chattanooga battling back to tie the game 10-10. A service ace from Kristina Nika puts the Dolphins back on top. A back-and-forth affair in Swisher tied 21-21. A service ace from Kariana Ayala-Drew put the Dolphins up 23-22. Another service ace from Julia de Sa ends the set 25-23.
SET THREE
Another tight opening to a set, Mcnamara slamming one down to keep the Dolphins ahead by two. Love adding to consecutive kills to separate from Chattanooga. A couple errors from the Dolphins put Chattanooga back on top. Chattanooga held on to the lead finishing the set 26-24.
SET FOUR
Jacksonville had a 4-0 scoring run conducting an 8-2 lead. Chattanooga showing grit comes back to tie the game 19-19. Madison Clark racking up the kill column puts the Dolphins up by one. But Chattanooga still showed grit and took set four 25-23.
SET FIVE
Jacksonville came out sharp, leading the way 8-3 in set five. Hart added two more kills extending the lead 14-11. A service error from Chattanooga allowed the Dolphins to capture the victory.
Jacksonville was once again led on the attack by Hart's 20 kills. Mcnamara helped with 16 kills. De Sa and Love registering 10. Rebecca Rocassin dished out 62 assists. And 28 digs for Ayala-Drew.
Georgia State
SET ONE
The Dolphins had a phenomenal game, Jenna Mcnamara's kill separated the Dolphins to a 13-7 lead. Madison Clark helping Jacksonville push to the finish line. The Dolphins had all the momentum to finish the set 25-19.
SET TWO
Jacksonville started early with a tremendous lead. The Dolphins held on to the lead 21-14. Julia De Sa slammed one down pushing the lead 22-15. Coming out of timeout De Sa adds another kill stretching the lead 23-17. Jenna McNamara closes out the last point for the Dolphins 25-20.
SET THREE
Hart and Rebecca Rocassin's block helped Jacksonville on their 3-0 scoring run. Errors from the panthers kept the Dolphins in the lead 6-1. Two consecutive kills from Hart stretching the lead by three. Lyric Love's kill separating from the Panthers 13-6. The Panthers slowly combined back to get within three of panthers. De Sa and Hart had an answer for the Panthers with a big block tying the game at 19-19. Panthers took the lead but there was no match for De Sa as she ended the game for the Dolphins 26-24.
The Dolphins are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2pm against Presbyterian at the Jacksonville Invitational Presented by Hampton Regency.
