JACKSONVILLE, FLA.- The Jacksonville volleyball program was defeated in straight sets by FGCU Saturday evening, inside of Swisher Gymnasium.
SET ONE
A back-and-forth affair in Swisher Gymnasium Jacksonville took the lead 8-6. FGCU fought back to tie 11-11. A huge kill from Haley Hart and Jenna McNamara put the Dolphins in the lead by two. FGCU pulled away forcing Jacksonville to take a timeout 16-18. FGCU kept the momentum extending the lead 21-16. Jacksonville battling to stay within range forces FGCU to take a timeout. FGCU staying above water closing out set one 25-21.
SET TWO
The two programs traded points back-and-forth for the duration of the set. FGCU took control of the set and caused the Dolphins to regroup and call a timeout 13-9. Two consecutive kills for Lyric Love brought the Dolphins back within range. Errors for the Dolphins put them down late in set two. FGCU goes on a 3-0 scoring run, finishing set two 25-20.
SET THREE
FGCU started set three early with a 4-0 scoring run holding a 5-1 lead. Jenna McNamara with two consecutive kills putting the Dolphins within one. FGCU capitalizing on the Dolphins errors extending their lead 14-5. FGCU, having the momentum in their favor to seal the deal in set three, won the frame 25-12.
Jenna McNamara led Jacksonville with nine kills and both Haley Hart and Julia De Sa with eight kills. Rebecca Rocassin with 33 assists, and Lyric Love with four blocks. Kariana Ayala-Drew collected 16 digs.
Jacksonville is on the road to Nashville next Friday at Austin Peay at 7pm.
