EDISTO BEACH, S.C. – Jacksonville University women's golf is in 10th place after two rounds of play Monday with Casey Powell leading the way for the Dolphins.
Powell began the day with a birdie at the par-5 10th hole and recorded four pars in the next eight holes. Her play improved on the second nine of her round, shooting three terrific birdies on the second, sixth and 8th hole. She added five pars, finishing her first 18 holes sitting at one-over-par. Powell continued her strong play into round two, birdieing again the 10th hole, and shot par the next 10 holes.
Powell finished at +3 through two rounds, placing her tied for 10th at the par-70, 5816 yard Plantation Course.
Ivete Rodrigues had a choppy start to her round but improved with steady play through the first 18. After sitting at +4 through six holes, she flipped the switch, recording nine pars and adding a clean birdie on the par-5 5th. Rodrigues had put herself back in contention, finishing +4 through 18.
She stayed steady throughout her second round shooting with 15 pars. Rodrigues finished shooting a 73 in the second round and finished +7 on the day. She is T27 after two rounds and is tied for third in the Pars category.
Issy Hopkins began with pars on 10 of her 12 holes. The freshman finished her first-round shooting 77. Hopkins improved in the second round, adding five birdies and nine pars, finishing with a score of 71. She sits at T34 with a score of +8.
Jenna Fonda finished at +14, shooting an 80 in the first round and 74 in the second. Freshman Gemma Burgess was just behind Fonda, shooting an 82 in the first round and 77 on the second 18.
The Dolphins shot a total of 302 in the first round and improved their play into the second round, shooting 290.
Jacksonville looks to finish strong in the final round of the Edisto Island Invitational, teeing off the third round Tuesday at 8:45 a.m.
