JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University women's golf charged up the leaderboard in the afternoon at San Jose Country Club to move into a tie for fifth with one round to play at the Sea Best Intercollegiate.

Freshman Ivete Rodrigues shot a 75-72 on Monday, climbing seven spots in the second round to enter a tie for fourth after 36 holes.

She turned in a steady first round, carding mostly pars with a birdie on the Par-3 12th. Her 13 pars established herself as one of the more even-keeled players on a day in which the morning scores yoyoed across the board.

She started her second round with a birdie, and after giving up the stroke she gained, got it back on her eighth hole with her second red number of the round. After a couple of bogeys over her next five, she buried consecutive birdies on 15 and 16, an concluded her day with her fifth and final one of the round. Her six total for the day was tied for fourth-most overall.

Casey Powell used a six-stroke improvement in the second round to move up 23-spots to T14 on the leaderboard, one of the biggest movers of the day. She battled through her first round, but started to find her rhythm late, making a birdie and three pars over her last five holes heading into 18. There, she birdied the Par-4 hole, ending the round on a high-note.

She opened her second round with a par and followed up with her second eagle in three holes, scoring a two on the Par-4 second. After that, she parred nine of her next 10, and had a birdie and three more pars to close out the day. Her two eagles were the only two made in the field on Monday. She was also the third-best scorer on par-4s for the day.

Jenna Fonda made a birdie and six pars on the front nine of her first round, duplicating that total on the back. In the second round, she had five pars before making the turn, and came home strong, burying consecutive birdies on holes 11 and 12, and making par on all but one of the rest of the back nine. She shot 1-under on Par-3s, tied with Rodrigues for best on the team and tied for third-best in the field.

Ashley Huffman made nine pars and a birdie in her first round, and settled in on her second 18, making 14 total pars her second time through. Her 23 total pars were tied with Fonda for the most on the team. Laura Pasalodos made a pair of birdies in the first round, and improved by six strokes in her second round, sinking 15 pars, including seven-straight at one point.

JU was third-best in the field on Par-3s and Par-4s, and the 16 made birdies was fifth-most.

The final round begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.
