Women's Basketball Falls Short to the Lions

FLORENCE, AL- Jacksonville University women's basketball traveled to North Alabama to take on the Lions Thursday night in CB&S Bank Arena. The Dolphins fell short to the Lions 52-55. 

Shynia Jackson scored the first four points for the Dolphins. Both programs traded points midway through the quarter. The Lions outscored the Dolphins by two at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter freshman Zaria Blake went to the line syncing one free throw. Jalisa Dunlap scored in the next possession with a layup, putting Jacksonville within range of one. The Dolphins went on a scoring drought for two minutes and 50 seconds until Jackson scored on a pull up jumper. The Lions outscored the Dolphins 14 to 9 going into halftime. North Alabama led 26-19.  

In the third quarter two free throws by Seraphine Bastin cut the deficit to eight points. The two teams traded baskets again midway through the quarter. Bastin ended up back at the free throw line syncing both free throws. The Dolphins trailed by five points. Jacksonville ended the third quarter outscoring North Alabama 14 to 12. The Dolphins had momentum going into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter Jackson dominated early scoring four points within 40 seconds putting the Dolphins up by one point. A three pointer from Delayna Gillard extended the lead. North Alabama responded back with another three to put them back in the lead. Blake was the spark for the Dolphins. Jackson put the Dolphins up by one point with two free throws. The Lions shot a three pointer with seconds on the clock to win the game.

Jacksonville returns home to play North Alabama for another round Wednesday night at 7pm.
