CHARLESTON, S.C. – Susana Olivares made her return to the lineup with a bang, shooting a first round 69 and ending day one of the Rivertowne Intercollegiate tied atop the leaderboard.
Jacksonville University women's golf is tied for sixth overall with 36 holes to go at Rivertowne Country Club.
The redshirt-junior from Guadalajara, Jalasico, Mexico bogeyed her first hole of the day, but caught fire after that. She rattled off four straight birdies from holes three through six. She also birdied her last hole before the turn, finishing her front nine 3-under. From there, she sank six straight pars, birdieing her sixth and final hole of the day on the Par-5 16th.
Ivete Rodrigues shot an even-par 72 and is T17 after the first day. After making par on five of her first six holes, she made birdies on two of her last three before the turn. Her lone blemish on the back-nine was a double-bogey on the 12th hole, and she got a stroke back with a birdie on the 16th, parring all the rest.
Casey Powell experienced an up-and-down first day, bouncing back from a double-bogey on her first hole to make five birdies on her front nine. On the back nine, she made one more birdie, but only three pars, and finished the round with a 2-over 74.
Laura Pasalodos sank 11 pars and a birdie on the Par-5 11th and
Jenna Fonda had eight pars and a birdie.
Two teams did not complete their round one play, so tomorrow's action begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
