HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Jacksonville University women's golf ended the first day of the Low Country Invitational in sixth, with two players in top-20.

Casey Powell and Ivete Rodrigues are T12 and T15, respectively, after 18 holes at a tough and windy Moss Creek Golf Club on Friday.

Powell birdied her second hole in the morning, her lone red number of the day. Her back-nine was steady, with seven of her 10 pars of the day.

Rodrigues shook off some early trouble to rip off five straight pars to conclude her front nine. She opened the back with another par, followed by her lone birdie of the day. She concluded her first round with four more pars over her last seven holes.

Jenna Fonda made nine pars and a birdie in her first round, Susana Olivares had eight pars and a birdie and Ashley Huffman made 10 pars.

The Dolphins tied for the fourth-most pars in the first round and were fifth-best on Par-5s. Huffman led the way for JU on Par-3s, shooting even par. Powell was the best on the team on both Par-4s and Par-5s.

Second round action is set to begin with Huffman teeing off for JU first at 9:52 a.m. on Saturday morning.
