HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Two members of Jacksonville University women's golf posted top-10 finishes as the team came home fifth in the ASUN Women's Golf Championship on Tuesday at RTJ at Hampton Cove.

Casey Powell finished T4 and Susana Olivares was sixth, the first time since 2018 that JU put two golfers inside the top-10 at the conference championship.

"Casey and Susana did really well and were solid all week," said Head Coach Kathryn Dougan. "I'm very proud and happy for this team."

Powell, who was named to the All-Tournament team, started her final round with a birdie, and battled through the rest of her front nine, making four pars the rest of the way before making the turn. It was good enough to have her in contention for the lead with nine holes to play, and she birdied the Par-3 11th to get back to one-over for the day. She parred four of her final seven holes of the day and posted JU's first top-10 finish at the ASUN Championship since Jessica Welch placed second in 2014. That was also the last year a player was named to the All-Tournament Team.

She was second in the field in Par-5 scoring for the week, taking advantage of the long holes to shoot 4-under. Her 54-hole score of 220 was also the second-best all-time for a Dolphin at the ASUN Championship.

"She just needed a few more putts to drop today, but she keeps putting herself in position and I keep telling her that her day is going to come," said Dougan.

Olivares matched her second-round score, shooting a 1-under 71 on Tuesday, riding a steady day to turn in the best card for a Dolphin in the closing round. She started her day with five straight pars, and after giving up a stroke, she got it right back with a birdie on the Par-3 8th. From there, she sank another birdie to get to 1-under at hole 11, another Par-3. She bogeyed 13, but finished strong, making three-straight pars before scoring her third and final red number of the day on the Par-5 17th, before closing the round with her 13th par.

She led the field in Par-4 scoring, shooting even-par for the week, and was also tied for first in Par-3 scoring, shooting 1-under. Her 41 pars were the most by any player in the championship as well.

"Sue overcame the difficulties of the first day and really played great," Dougan said.

Ivete Rodrigues entered the lineup for the final round and finished strong in her first taste of postseason experience. The freshman rode a wave of pars and bogeys on the front nine, but, starting with a par on hole 13, finished the round under-par the rest of the way. She collected her first birdie on the 14th, sank three straight pars and ended the round with another birdie on the Par-4 18th.

Laura Pasalodos made 11 pars in her final round and Jenna Fonda had 12 pars and a birdie.

JU finished the week as the best team in the field in Par-5 scoring, and the 160 total pars were third most.
