HOW IT HAPPENED
The Knights, who jumped out of the gates and fired two shots on goal in the first two minutes, scored three times to open the first 25 minutes of the match. Jacksonville (2-8-2), which settled into the match as it wore on, responded in the 42nd minute as
Anaya Black raced down the right flank of the field. She then cut from right to left, and a defender grabbed her as she ran past, earning a penalty kick for the Dolphins. Freshman
Lillian Young stepped up to the spot and clinically finished into the bottom right corner, giving JU its first goal of the night.
The Dolphins came out of the second half determined to attempt a comeback in the game. Young again found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season, leading the team and ranking second in the Atlantic Sun. In the last 25 minutes of the match, Jacksonville recorded six shots to Bellarmine's two in an attempt to level the match. However, the Knights were granted a penalty kick in the 79th minute, one that they did not miss. Thus, the Dolphins' comeback fell just short, and Bellarmine was able to claim all three points.
