FLORENCE, Ala. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team is back in the win column after a 2-0 victory over North Alabama.
Behind a pair of goals from Logan Gonzales the Dolphins saw their record improve to 3-8-2 overall and 2-4-1 in ASUN action. Jacksonville had not won a game since Sept. 19 against Stetson, but saw that streak snap in shutout fashion on Thursday night.
How it Happened
Jacksonville took a 1-0 lead when Gonzales recorded her fourth goal of the season in the 23rd minute, assisted by Millie Urquhart.
In the second half, the Dolphins tacked on another score from Gonzales off a penalty kick. Gonzales now leads the team with five goals and her brace was her first scoring action since recording a brace against South Carolina State.
JU tallied 18 shots in the contest, with a team-high four coming from Gonzales. Manuela Restrepo was not far behind with three shots, followed by Bayleigh Humbert, Madelyn Radtke and Mariama Dabo who each had two.
In net, Pia Bozic faced just one shot on goal and 19 total shots, recording a single save. Bozic did receive some solid help from her defensive backend in both halves however. With under 15 minutes to play in the first half, Dabo tossed her body in front of a ball to save a scoring chance. With just two minutes to play in the first half, JU saw at least three different defenders knock the ball out of harm's way to fend off another Lions scoring opportunity and keep the shutout alive.
Coach's Comments
"Really happy with the performance tonight," head coach Ryan Moon said. "(We) worked extremely hard for each other and had some real quality moments in possession. We fixed some things that we needed to defensively and we were rewarded with the shutout for those efforts. Looking forward to attacking our next challenge on Sunday."
