KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville women's basketball team fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs 80-35 Sunday afternoon in the inaugural WBCA State Farm Showcase. It was the first ever meeting between the two programs.

The Dolphins (3-3) were led by senior guard Edyn Battle, who finished with 10 points. She's scored in double figures every game this season.

The first half was a defensive battle between the two teams. The Dolphins did the bulk of their damage from the free throw line. Jacksonville shot 8-12 from the stripe in the opening half to stay within range of the Bulldogs.

Towards the end of the second quarter, the Dolphins chipped away at the lead with a 6-0 run to capture some momentum. Battle went to the line twice, and Jacksonville played stout defensively to limit the Bulldogs.

Mississippi State separated in the second half with strong shooting and an advantage on the glass. The Dolphins tried to keep pace through the third quarter, but the Bulldogs pulled away to close out the second half.

• Senior center Jada Duckett set a season high with five rebounds.
