JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Jacksonville (17-20, 11-6 ASUN) was defeated 9-8 in 11 innings, by North Florida (18-18, 8-9 ASUN) in game two of the River City Rumble.
In a game with four lead changes and plenty of late-inning dramatic plays, the Ospreys left with a victory to set up a rubber match game three on Sunday afternoon.
Evan Chrest started off strong on the mound to start the game, fanning two Osprey batters to start things off in the matchup.
After a scoreless first inning, the Dolphins offense loaded the bases setting up
Blake Edmonds with an early opportunity to deal some damage. Edmonds delivered, ripping a three-RBI double to clear the bases, making it 3-0 Jacksonville early.
In the fourth inning, the Ospreys offense erupted for seven runs to take the lead with help from five hits and two errors in the frame.
Tommy Allman relieved Chrest after the Ospreys took the lead 4-3, ending the Sophomore's day.
The following half-inning,
Cade Hentz and Edmonds both walked on 3-1 counts to put a pair of runners on for the 'Phins.
Tyrell Brewer came up to bat next and hit a single up the middle that scored Hentz on a close play at the plate.
The score remained 7-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh and the 'Phins were determined to keep battling.
Josh Steidl started things off right with a single to right field.
Abdriel Delgado added a single and with a
Nick DeLisi walk on a 3-0 count, the bases were loaded were for Jacksonville. Steidl came into score off a passed ball to cut the 'Phins deficit to two.
Will Gale came up to bat and drove in DeLisi and Delgado to tie things up at seven.
The Dolphins took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth when
Chandler Howard came in to score after an error by the Osprey left fielder.
North Florida wasn't going to go down easy though and extended the game after a RBI single tied the game at 8-8 in the ninth. The Jacksonville offense couldn't get things cooking in the home half of the inning and the game advanced into extra innings.
After a scoreless 10th inning by both squads, the Ospreys came up to the plate in the 11th and took the lead with an RBI base hit. The Dolphins posed a threat to take the game late, putting runners on base, but couldn't take advantage of the opportunity and dropped a tough back-and-forth game, 9-8.
Peyton Prescott (3-4) was given the loss in the matchup.
