Dolphins Complete Sweep of Austin Peay; Win Seventh Consecutive

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville softball team completed the sweep over Austin Peay in comeback fashion on Sunday by a score of 6-2.

Kari Holzrichter was a perfect 3-3 on the day, which included her first home run of the season to lead the Dolphins offensively. Madison Bratek added another multi-hit game as well.

Freshman Reese Wells (4-0) had a unique weekend where she clinched a save in yesterday's doubleheader and her fourth win of the season in the series sweeping contest today. She pitched three innings and surrendered just one walk and struck out four batters in the process.

The Governors put up a two-spot in the first inning to take their first lead of the weekend. A leadoff single got things started, and after a pair of outs, back-to-back singles saw two runners score for the early 2-0 lead.

Jacksonville, who entered the game riding a six-game win streak, battled back throughout the next four innings. First in the third inning, it was Dacie Watterson who led off the inning with a walk. A Madison Bratek bunt single and Madison Reyonlds sacrifice bunt had the Dolphins with runners on second and third with one out. Allison Bratek then hit a tapper to second, and the speedy Watterson scored from third with ease. In the fourth, Kari Holzrichter led off the inning with a liner that carried over the right-field fence for her first of the season, and tied the game, 2-2.

The next frame saw neither side score, but after a perfect sixth inning from Reece Wells gave JU the chance to go ahead in the bottom of the sixth. Allison Bratek started the inning with a double down the left-field line, and two batters later, Holzrichter slapped a single the other way. Kailey Harrigan then hit a single up the middle, which scored Bratek from second and had JU with two runners on with only one out. Gabi Robles took an 0-2 fastball back up the middle, but a fielding error by the Govs pitcher prolonged the inning and scored Wells, who had pinch-run earlier in the inning for Holzrichter. Watterson then stepped up to the plate and took a 2-0 pitch straight to centerfield, which scored two Dolphins and gave JU a 6-2 lead heading into the seventh.

Wells stepped into the circle again and struck out the side to clinch JU's seventh win in a row, which puts them in fourth in the ASUN standings.
