Jacksonville Secures 3-0 Road Win Against Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio -- Jacksonville held Dayton scoreless and defeated the Flyers in a 3-0 shutout victory Sunday (Aug. 25) on the road at Baujan Field. The Dolphins looked fresh throughout despite the quick turnaround following a match against Louisville on Thursday.

Carson Wood was a key cog in the offensive engine for Jacksonville, assisting both Oscar Resano and Ken Raghoebar's goals in 62 minutes of action. Four JU players, Cristobal Molina-Campo, Kasper Davidsson, Paul Danner and goalkeeper Christian Sekanina played the full 90 minutes.

Sekanina earned the third shutout of his career and first of the season against a quality Dayton squad coming off an appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season.

Head Coach Ali Simmons
"It's a great win versus a very strong opponent. They scored five in the opening game and play a very attacking style so we had to be ready defensively. We were clinical in our attacks and the boys gave everything defensively. Excited to get home and play at Southern Oak on Thursday"

How it Happened

Jacksonville broke the scoreless tie when Resano scored his first goal of the season in the 17th minute, finding the back of the net after a Carson Wood assist.

The Dolphins scored again on a goal from Molina-Campo, his first goal of the season, in the 29th minute, assisted by Davidsson.

Jacksonville made it a 3-0 advantage on Raghoebar's 69th-minute goal, his first of the season. Wood assisted the goal as JU would wrap up its first win of the season in dominant fashion.

From Christian Sekanina
"I think the trip showed the quality of guys we have on and off the pitch. The fact that we bounced back after a disappointing loss like we did today, shows the mentality of this group. We know what we're capable of and we will never get tired of fighting for each other."

Game Notes

  • Sekanina collected seven saves for the Dolphins out of 25 total Flyers shots.
  • Jacksonville recorded three shots on goal, scoring on all three.
  • JU had three different goal scorers in the game, with Wood assisting on two of three.
