Dolphins Defeat Wildcats In Jacksonville Invitational Finale

JACKSONVILLE, FL --Breanna McDonough and Cami Kelsay both recorded double-doubles to help power the Jacksonville volleyball team to a 3-2 victory (25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 14-25, 15-12) against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Saturday at Swisher Gymnasium.

The Dolphins were led by double-doubles from both Kelsay, who had 10 kills and 12 digs, and McDonough, who had 19 kills and 13 digs. Haley Yount also added 12 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kristina Nika chipped in for with 14 digs to go with five blocks from Amina Dervisevic.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Dolphins seized an early lead, handily winning the first set 25-19. Jacksonville never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased two lead changes. The Dolphins opening set win came in a set where 19 of their 25 points came via the kill.

SET 2 | Jacksonville won set two 25-19 to quickly grab a 2-0 lead. The Dolphins grabbed the set with the help of a strong performance on the attacking end. Jacksonville put together a .333 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set win. The Dolphins opened up a 23-16 lead in the set and coasted to victory from there. Jacksonville's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Bethune-Cookman attacks in the set.

SET 3 | Jacksonville couldn't end the match in a sweep, dropping the third set to make their lead two sets to one in the match. The Dolphins dropped set three 25-23. Bethune-Cookman grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that was tied up two times before the Lady Wildcats took over in the second half of the set.

SET 4 | Jacksonville then dropped their second straight set 25-14 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Dolphins trailed by as many as 11 points as Bethune-Cookman grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 and Jacksonville wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up four times before the Lady Wildcats took over.

SET 5 | Jacksonville needed a fifth set to win the match. After they won the first two sets, Bethune-Cookman responded to take the third and fourth sets before the Dolphins finished off their victory with a 15-12 fifth-set win. The Dolphins took the lead for good at 6-5 in a set that showcased two lead changes before JU finished off the match.
