FGCU Takes Down Jacksonville 2-0

JACKSONVILLE -- Jacksonville fell 2-0 at home to FGCU Sunday (Sept. 22) at Southern Oak Stadium in the team's conference home opener.

The loss dropped Jacksonville's record to 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in ASUN action following a 1-0 win over Stetson earlier in the week.

How it Happened

Pia Bozic led Jacksonville with three saves, starting her second straight ASUN competition. The Dolphins recorded 16 shots in the loss with nine on goal. Jacksonville faced eight FGCU shots, five of them on goal.

The Dolphins had their best chance of the day late in the second half when Manuela Restrepo was dragged down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. The Eagles saved the kick, and the ensuing rebound, to keep JU off the scoreboard.

Restrepo finished the game with a monstrous four shots on goal, leading her team. Olivia Peal added two of her own including a header that was saved.

Coach's Comments
"I think the idea is the same as it was earlier in the season that we will learn lessons from this," coach Ryan Moon said. "We didn't start well enough in the first half but turned it around in the second half. We had our moments to get back into the game. If you start slow against a well coached team then they will punish you. We will learn our lesson today and go again on Thursday."

Game Notes

  • Bozic collected three saves for the Dolphins out of eight total Eagles shots.
  • Jacksonville put nine shots on goal compared to FGCU's five.

Up Next
