Jacksonville Drops Close Match With UNF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville came up just one goal short in the latest edition of the River City Rumble against North Florida, 4-3, Saturday (Sept. 28) on the road at Hodges Stadium. The Dolphins' three goals scored tied a season-high set against Dayton, but was not enough in the end to take down the Ospreys.

Jacksonville dropped to 1-6-3 overall and 0-2-0 in ASUN action after the loss.

How it Happened

The Dolphins got on the board first behind a Carson Wood goal, assisted by Owen Guske. The score tied the game at 1-1. JU found itself down 2-1 with under a minute to play in the first half before Olivier Correa found nylon off of a free kick.

The momentum was quickly seized back by UNF after a pair of scores gave the Ospreys a 4-2 lead for most of the second half. Oscar Resano scored the contest's final goal after a play forward from Wood, but JU could not find the equalizer.

Coach's Comments
"Ultimately, they let themselves get back into a game where we started off flat," head coach Ali Simmons said of his team. "We can't be conceding cheap, crossing goals like we did. We had a better second half and we did well. But if we are going to concede goals early on, that is a problem we need to work on. We need to work together. We put ourselves in a little bit of a hole with six games to play. We are fully capable of taking the 18 points. We are ready to make a statement and bounce back and I fully believe this group will."

Game Notes

  • Jacksonville received two yellow cards to Orion McHugh and Wood.
  • Wood and Correa each recorded their first goals of the season.
  • With his goal, Resano leads the team in goals with three.
  • Christian Sekanina totaled three saves for the Dolphins out of 11 total Ospreys shots.
  • Jacksonville recorded four shots on goal
