Jacksonville Earns 2-1 Victory Over Georgia Southern

JACKSONVILLE, -- Jacksonville rallied from a 1-0 deficit to take down Ga. Southern 2-1 Tuesday (Oct. 1) at home at Southern Oak Stadium.

Jacksonville improved to 2-5-3 on the season with the victory.

Head Coach Ali Simmons
"Really happy to get the result against a really good team who are receiving recognition nationally.

We've put in good performances for large parts of the season and we got what we deserved tonight, proud of our boys, now time to focus on The ASUN"

How it Happened

Ga. Southern took a 1-0 lead when Ricky Louis scored in the 45th minute. Right out of halftime, the Eagles struck first, looking to extend their unbeaten streak to eight games while moving towards their fourth victory over an ASUN program this season.

The Dolphins responded to tie the game on a goal from Cristobal Molina-Campo -- his third goal of the season -- in the 52nd minute, as the graduate student scored his third of the season and first since returning from an injury suffered against Winthrop exactly one month prior.

Jacksonville then busted up the 1-1 draw on Oscar Resano's 77th-minute goal, his fourth of the season. Michael Mancuso assisted the goal and put the Eagles at a disadvantage late in the second half, giving the Dolphin's bench life and setting the stage for Georgia Southern's first loss this season.

The score held, as JU tightened on the defensive end, picking up another upset over a program receiving national recognition this season.

Game Notes

  • Christian Sekanina collected one save for the Dolphins out of 11 total Eagles shots.
  • Jacksonville recorded six shots on goal.
  • Resano and Molina-Campo scored their fourth and third goals of the season, continuing to be the offensive spark for Jacksonville this season.
Cristobal Molina-Campo
"What a feeling to be back with this family after a tough few weeks. I am extremely grateful to God for my family and the people I have around me. After the character shown tonight, there is no roof for this program!"
