Dolphins, Eagles Battle To Draw In Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville earned its first draw of the conference season, battling visiting FGCU to a 1-1 stalemate.

The Dolphins moved to 8-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play with the result. The team's lone loss came to FGCU in Ft. Myers.

Sunday afternoon's game was tied until Layla Garcia-Moreno netted a highlight reel goal to give her team the lead. From close to midfield, the graduate transfer popped up a shot that just sank in over the outstretched arms of the FGCU keeper. The goal was her fifth of the season and first since scoring at UNF.

Just after halftime, FGCU netted the equalizer on a header which ended up as the game's final goal.

Jacksonville dominated in terms of shots, outshooting the Eagles 16-9. Alicia Rey Perez led the charge with four shots, three of which were on target. Garcia-Moreno had three shots of her own, two on net.

Pia Bozic made two total saves throughout the game. Bozic has allowed just two goals in her last three conference appearances.

The Dolphins now have just three games left on the schedule before the playoffs. Square in the mix for a top overall seed, JU must first get through the second edition of the River City Rumble. UNF comes to Southern Oak Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 19 for a rematch game before JU closes out the year on the road at West Georgia (Oct. 22) and Queens (Oct. 25).
