JACKSONVILLE, FLA. --- The Jacksonville volleyball team returned to Swisher Gymnasium for the first time in four games, soundly sweeping the West Georgia Wolves Friday nights. The Dolphins (19-6, 10-3 ASUN) completed the season sweep over UWG, winning all six sets.
Jacksonville was led by three players with double-digit kills: junior
Claire Mrukowski, senior
Breanna McDonough and sophomore
Haley Yount. They highlighted an efficient offensive performance where the Dolphins hit .416 as a team.
How It Happened
Set 1
Mrukowski set the pace in the opening set, lacing five kills in the first. West Georgia pushed Jacksonville in the middle of the set, but JU closed things out when the points mattered most. Mrukowski and McDonough scored back-to-back kills, before an error put the Dolphins on set point.
Jacksonville turned back to the senior McDonough who notched another kill to give JU the set win 25-17.
Set 2
West Georgia looked to finally steal a set from Jacksonville, taking a 21-18 lead late into the period. The Dolphins rallied, however, taking four-straight points punctuated by a kill from sophomore
Haley Yount and a UWG error.
The sides traded points, tying the match at 24. A Wolves service error and another Mrukowski kill iced it for JU, 26-24.
Set 3
After two contested sets, the Dolphins played their best volleyball of the night to secure the sweep. A 5-0 run put Jacksonville up 13-5 and there was no looking back from there. Mrukowski put JU at 20, and the home side made quick work of the rest of the match.
Yount added two more kills to her tally, while Williams added another to put Jacksonville on match point. The Wolves committed an error on the game's final point, handing JU the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.
