Thirdkill Leads Charge During Loss To Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In the first game of a five-game road stand, the Jacksonville Dolphins fell to Texas A&M 112-75.

During just the second ever meeting between the Dolphins and the Aggies, Texas A&M got the best of the squad from Florida, moving JU to 5-6 so far this season. Jacksonville has two more non-conference games to play before starting the ASUN slate on the road at Lipscomb and Austin Peay.

The best night of any Dolphin was had by Jason Thirdkill Jr., who paced the 'Phins with 19 points. His point total tied his career-high with JU and marked his highest scoring output against a Division 1 team this season.

Coming off the bench and playing 21 minutes, Thirdkill went 6-8 from the field. He connected on a pair of deep balls in the second half, while also adding three rebounds and a team-high two blocks.

Thirdkill wasn't the only double-digit scorer for the 'Phins, as freshman Hayden Wood dropped 12 points. Wood too hit a pair of triples in the second half, ending his day with a 5-7 shooting performance. The guard grabbed five boards, good for second on the team and good for his third game this season with five or more rebounds.

Chris Lockett Jr. scored 11 of his own, leading JU into the halftime break with nine points.

Jacksonville and Texas A&M traded blows to start the game, with A&M going up 2-0 before Enrico Borio buried a triple to take the lead. A&M answered on the other end before Jaylen Jones scored on a jumper to give the visitors a 5-4 advantage. That lead was Jacksonville's last of the day.

Lockett did pull Jacksonville within one, down 8-7, after a pair of free throw makes at the 15:59 mark before the Aggies mounted a 6-0 scoring run that Jacksonville couldn't recover from.

At the half, JU found itself down 51-26.

Borio led the team in rebounding while making his second consecutive start. The Brazilian national pulled down six boards, part of a 25-rebound night for the 'Phins. In terms of dishing the rock, Jaylen Jones led the pack with four assists and four points of his own.

All 10 Dolphins that saw action Sunday night scored. Chris Arias finished just outside of double-digits with a nine-point night.

Jacksonville led the game in blocks, 5-4, and had a solid night at the charity stripe as the Dolphins finished 14-17 at the line. Thirdkill led the team with a 5-7 night. Right behind him was Charles Caporaso's 4-4 free throw shooting performance. Both Lockett and Jones went 2-2.

As for the Aggies, Texas A&M had its best overall shooting performance (59.2%) and its second best 3-point shooting night (48.0) of the year on Sunday night.

Jacksonville's road swing continues with two trips to Florida's capital, first against FAMU for a rematch with the Rattlers. JU and FAMU square off on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. Following, Jacksonville will test its mettle against Florida State on Monday, Dec. 22 also at 7 p.m.
