FORT WORTH, Texas --- The Jacksonville Dolphins traveled to face a Top 10 opponent for the second time in the
Special Jennings era, falling to the No. 8 TCU Horned Frogs, 89-49. Despite the loss, sophomore
Mychal White had another strong performance off the bench.
Playing just two hours from her hometown of Harker Heights, Texas, White scored a team-high 14 points and led the team with three steals. She brought physicality to both ends of the court, leading all players in the game with a 13-14 night from the free-throw line.
The Dolphins were up for the challenge of the Top 10 Horned Frogs in the first half. Jacksonville held TCU to under 40% from the field in the first half and created opportunities in transition with quick steals.
The first quarter was low scoring, with neither team hitting double figures until after the first media timeout. Graduate student guard
Priscilla Williams tied the game at 11 from the charity stripe, but a late burst from the Frogs gave TCU a 16-12 lead after one.
The Horned Frogs pushed their lead to nine early in the second, but the Dolphins wouldn't fade in the quarter. Freshman
Tatum Brown silenced the TCU run with a triple to keep Jacksonville in striking distance. JU closed the gap further, with Williams capping a 7-0 run from the stripe to cut the deficit to five. Jacksonville trailed by just seven at the halftime break.
TCU found its scoring form in the second half, though, putting 56 points on the board after the break. White and the Dolphins continued to battle into the fourth quarter. White had a hyper-efficient final quarter, scoring 10 points going 8-8 from the free throw line and adding a layup.
Game Notes
- White has scored 15-plus points in four of her last five games.
- JU's last game against a Top 10 team came against then-No. 7 LSU in 2023.
