MIAMI, Fla. – The Jacksonville men's basketball team fell in its second ever meeting with FIU Saturday afternoon, 88-65, in Miami.

Evan Sterck gave the 'Phins a 3-2 lead to start the contest, but it was short lived as the visitors trailed the duration of the game. The loss moved Jacksonville to 4-5 on the season and 1-4 in true road games.

Scoring was hard to come by at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, but Chris Lockett Jr. led the charge with a 15-point effort. Like with his second half heroics against FAMU, Lockett scored 12 of his points all in the second half to lead the entire game in scoring.

His final output was a career-high with JU and just one point shy of tying his collegiate career-high of 16. The Boise State transfer led the team in assists with four, which also tied his overall career best mark.

In the first half, a triple by Hayden Wood knotted things at nine apiece with just under 16 minutes to play. FIU then mounted an 11-point run to take charge, going into halftime up 41-23.

Jason Thirdkill Jr. came alive in the second half for Jacksonville, scoring all of his nine points in the game's wanning minutes. The big man also added a pair of rebounds, marking nine straight games with at least two rebounds for the senior transfer.

The freshmen tandem of Hayden Wood and Evan Sterck each scored eight. The duo both connected on a pair of triples. Wood added four rebounds.

Jacksonville did win the rebounding battle overall, cleaning up 39 boards to FIU's 31. Leading the pack was Allen Udemadu's seven rebounds, which set a new season high. Freshman Michael Harper Jr. grabbed a career-high five boards. Sophomore Chris Arias grabbed the same number which tied his second best showing of the season.

The 'Phins made most of their money from beyond the arc, going 12-33 overall. The 33 deep ball attempts was the second highest mark of the season. Lockett led the team with four connections from downtown.

Defensively, JU limited all four of FIU's top scorers to below their season averages. Jacksonville also forced 11 FIU turnovers.  

The 'Phins return home next to square off against Trinity College of Jacksonville in the team's final non-conference home game of the season. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11.
