Jacksonville Falls in Season Opener to Second-Ranked Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY — Jacksonville University men's lacrosse fell 24-5 to second-ranked Syracuse on the road at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday (Feb. 1).

A slow start against an experienced and talented 'Cuse program was too much in the end as the Orange proved their preseason ranking in the season opener.

Highlights
Dalton Hubbs put the Dolphins on the board for the first time this season, scoring while on the run with 4:36 left in the first half.

Daylin John-Hill, the former Bolles product, earned his first career goal for JU on the team's second man-up opportunity of the season.

Early in the fourth, Nicky Brown scored off an assist from Jack Taylor with 13:48 left in the game, the first points for both players this season.

Jack Lovelace got on the board with 7:01 left, bouncing it off the goalie and into the back of the net.

Drew Kessenich earned his first goal in a Jacksonville uniform late in the game, sliding one past the goalie with just 10 seconds remaining.

Head Coach John Galloway
"This wasn't a proud moment in our program, but it is an opportunity if we use it the right way. I am looking forward to the challenge of helping to put this team in a position to be successful. Our first step will be committing to an effort level that is unmatched and can never be questioned. We will get back tomorrow with an open mind and full heart."

Next Up
The Dolphins will continue their tough non-conference schedule with a home contest against #7 Duke on Saturday (Feb. 8) at noon.
